Q: I have been talking to a guy online who says he is in the marines in Nigeria. He wants to put money into my bank account but tells me that the government has frozen his accounts while he is deployed. He wants me to give my user ID and password to my account and I have repeatedly told him no. Does the government freeze accounts for military personnel deployed?

A: Run and hide … or at least just quit talking to this scam artist! There are few absolutes in life, but here’s an idea that could very well fit into that category: never share your bank information, and certainly not your ID/password, with anyone. I’m not a gambler (ok, maybe that’s not entirely accurate), but I’d be willing to wager that your online acquaintance is not interested in ADDING money to your bank account. So, head for the hills. I’ve never heard of the government freezing accounts for deployed personnel and would be shocked if that’s what’s really going on in this situation.

This is a pretty common scam, often originating in Nigeria.
Avoid further contact at all costs. There is no merit to be found in this proposition, or any follow-up communication.

DOES THE MILITARY GET THERE MONEY OR DOES IT ALL GO BACK HOME INTO THERE ACCOUNT. IN THE STATES? UN TILL THE GET BACK FROM BEIGN DEPLOYED TO AFGHAN.
Most military banks are mostly online banking…they “get” their money and can spend it however they want.…
